10 Best Baldur's Gate 3 Items Before Moving To Act 3 (2024)

Baldur's Gate 3 has no shortage of options when it comes to ways to customize gameplay, and the items used by each character play a role in that. Items in BG3 not only change the way combat is played, but they can provide substantial power boosts for difficult bosses. Alternatively, keeping a stock of items with different bonuses that can be used against bosses with weak resistance to their effects can be worthwhile.

Although many powerful items aren't available until Act 3 in Baldur's Gate 3, there are pieces of gear worth getting from both Act 1 and 2 that can increase survivability while progressing through the plethora of main and side quests. It's particularly helpful to get free uses of various Sorcerer spells in Baldur's Gate 3 through item charges, saving spell slots for more powerful attacks or healing, depending on the class. These are items in Acts 1 and 2 that are the most worthwhile to grab before hitting a "Point of No Return," which will make it impossible to go back and get them.

10 Warped Headband Of Intellect

This headpiece boosts Intelligence, raising the stat to 17 for the character who equips it. It's tough to argue against a flat bonus to stats, and this item could be crucial for multiclasses that don't allow for as high of an Intelligence score as going into one class might. This piece is dropped by Lump in Act 1, an ogre speaking with other ogres in Blighted Village.

9 Sword Of Justice

The Sword of Justice gives a free version of shield of faith called Tyr's protection, and it lasts until a Long Rest if the character's Concentration isn't broken. Additionally, it does 6-16 Slashing Damage, which isn't a bad deal for an Act 1 item that has a free use of shield of faith on it. To get this item, meet with Karlach for the "Hunt the Devil" quest from Wyll, then side with her to defeat the fake paladins of Tyr, which allows this sword to be taken from Anders.

These gloves allow missiles from ranged attacks to be intercepted, which reduces their damage by 1d10 plus the character's Dexterity Modifier. These gloves are great for melee fighters to increase their survivability when there are ranged enemies in the battle. Even better, the Gloves of Missile Snaring can be purchased in Act 1 in the Emerald Grove.

7 Adamantine Armor

Two versions of Adamantine Armor can be made at Grymforge in the Underdark, and they offer the same bonuses with varying specifics. However, The armor prevents being hit with critical hits, gives a flat reduction to damage taken, and sends enemies who hit the character wearing it reeling. Combined with a decent AC, this piece is great for any character tanking most of the damage for the party.

6 Diadem Of Arcane Synergy

Obtained from the Githyanki Crèche in the Mountain Pass, the Diadem of Arcane Synergy provides the character wearing it with two charges of Arcane Synergy when they inflict an enemy with a condition. Arcane Synergy is an effect that increases an attack's damage by five. As such, this item offers a nice damage boost to a character in the party who has a tendency to put conditions on enemies regularly.

5 Disintegrating Night Walkers

Another item from Grymforge, the Disintegrating Night Walkers are rare boots that offer great benefits to characters who need to be mobile during combat. While wearing the Disintegrating Night Walkers, the character can't be Enwebbed, Entangled, or Ensnarred, nor can they slip on Grease or Ice. The available items can make it worth heading to the Underdark, even when planning to use the Mountain Pass to officially get to Act 2 because they'll be useful heading forward.

On critical hits, this sword deals an extra 1d10 Necrotic Damage and gives the wearer 10 temporary hit points. The Sword of Life Stealing is available pretty early in Act 2, which is a nice bonus because this act has some difficult battles in it. Dammon is selling it at Last Light Inn, and it costs nearly 500 gold; but it not only offers a damage boost, but it can also help a character survive a little longer in battles with the temporary hit points.

3 Incandescent Staff

The Incandescent Staff gives the wearer access to the firebolt cantrip, a free use of fireball, and it gives resistance to Fire Damage. With how strong fireball can be in a fight with a lot of enemies to deal with, having an extra use of it that doesn't take a spell slot can be highly useful to get rid of adds. This staff is another item that can be purchased in Act 2 at Last Light Inn from Quartermaster Talli.

2 Shar's Spear Of Evening And Selûne's Spear Of Night

Shar's Spear gives an advantage on Saving Throws while obscured, making the wearer immune to being blinded. Selûne's Spear gives an advantage on Wisdom and Perception checks and 12 meters of Darkvision. Only one spear can be obtained, and that's decided by the choice made when Shadowheart encounters Nightsong near the end of Act 2.

1 Blood Of Lathander

The Blood of Lathander in Baldur's Gate 3 can be obtained from the Githyanki Crèche in the Mountain Pass by completing a series of puzzles after facing off against the Inquisitor. It's one of the strongest early game items, perfect for a healer. It gives a free use of sunbeam and sheds light around the wearer that forces fiends and undead to succeed on a Constitution Saving Throw or be blinded. Even better, when the wearer's health hits 0, they receive 2d12 hit points back, and their nearby allies get 1d6 hit points.

There are endless possibilities for journeying through the world of Baldur's Gate 3 and solving the problems that the inhabitants face. But as the difficulty increases, or for getting through a run on Tactician, it's important to have the best equipment possible in order to survive. At least, the equipment needs to be good enough to reach Act 3, where it'll likely be replaced by better options in Baldur's Gate 3.
